THE ROLE            

Our client, an Alberta-based credit union is seeking a Manager, Financial Service Advisors to join their dynamic team. The primary function of this position is to manage the retail sales and service environment of the credit union which will include the investment and consumer credit activities of the membership as well as administer the mutual fund portfolio of the organization. This position will be familiar with and operate within defined policies, procedures and legislative regulations in order to provide members with viable options for their personal financial security. This position is also responsible for coaching and performance management of the Financial Service Advisors to ensure success within their role. The Manager Financial Service Advisors will also act as the liaison between various industry partners such as Credential Asset Management, Concentra, Qtrade and Virtual Wealth.

The manager participates in all campaigns and promotions and champions the credit unions mission and values to provide the membership with products/services to meet their personal financial objectives. It will be the responsibility of the manager to provide technical guidance, expertise and leadership to staff in the areas of financial planning, investment, deposit products, consumer lending.  In order to achieve this, it will be vital to have in-depth knowledge of the products and services offered to our members, the credit unions philosophies and principles, as well as the credit unions policies and procedures as they relate to wealth management, deposit services, and consumer lending.


  • Manage Financial Service Advisors: Mentor and define roles, duties and responsibilities for your direct reports to meet the business objectives of the credit union.  Complete annual performance reviews and provide input related to incentive pay when applicable. 
  • Wealth Management Services: Provide expert financial planning and investment knowledge and advice to members to ensure their financial needs are being met. 
  • Business Objectives: Implement the strategic planning goals and objectives of the credit union into the department goals and action plans for the Financial Service Advisors.  Provide input to the CEO & Manager Finance & Risk regarding the development of the credit unions annual budget. 
  • Product Development: Provide input to the CEO in relation to new products and/or rates to keep the credit union competitive within the marketplace. 
  • Review policies and revise when necessary
  • Solicit new opportunities for member and non-member business via personal contacts, cold calling, report analysis, and follow up on referrals from other staff
  • Mentor/Coach Financial Service Advisors
  • Set goals and action plans for Financial Service Advisors
  • Participate in activities to promote the credit union and cultivate new members
  • Manage own book of mutual fund business
  • Manage a select group of high-net-worth members



  • Bachelor of Commerce degree, Bachelor of Management degree or other financial degree preferred. Minimum requirement of either Business Administration or Business Management diploma.
  • 5 years Wealth Management experience, with 3 years credit union experience in a supervisory role (preferred)
  • Consumer and mortgage lending experience
  • Licensed Mutual Fund sales agent
  • Certified Financial Planning designation is an asset but not a requirement.
