THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior IT Project Manager to join one of the largest equipment dealers in the world, SMS Equipment.

Reporting to the PMO Manager, the Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for project planning, execution, and delivery of one or more projects. These projects vary in complexity and may include application, infrastructure, or business intelligence projects within the overall IT project portfolio. The Senior IT Project Manager will lead projects delivering on time and on budget, all while managing change effectively. This role will build and manage project teams ensuring quality control and maximum performance throughout the project life cycle.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

Planning, Delivery and Deployment:

  • Takes full responsibility and ownership for assigned projects from initiation through to successful completion.
  • Initiates projects following appropriate project management methodology including gathering and defining comprehensive project requirements, ensuring strategic alignment, developing project charters, project plans, presentations, budgets, and schedules, determining staffing requirements, and forming cross-functional project teams.
  • Delivers estimation, manages, and reports on project resources and budgets.
  • Balances workload, provides technical and analytical guidance and work direction to project team, including scheduling, assignment of work, review of project efforts and removal of roadblocks which inhibit project success.
  • Assesses the need for additional staff and/or consultants and assists in the appropriate recruitments if necessary, during the project cycle.
  • Identifies project risks and ensures strategies are in place for each to prevent negative impacts to the successful delivery of the project.
  • Ensures that all team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively and provides the team with constructive feedback as it pertains to project performance.
  • Assesses variances from the project plans, budgets, and schedules, then develops and implements changes as necessary to ensure that the project remains within specified scope.
  • Clearly communicate expectations, progress, milestones, risks and mitigating tasks to team members, stakeholders, steering committees, and executive.
  • Develops and maintains a productive working relationship with project sponsors, stakeholders, project team member, partners, and key clients.
  • Ensure all project documents are safely archived following project completion.
  • Determines how results will be measured and complete a post-project evaluation to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements as well as determining processes to improve future projects.
  • Works with Organizational Change Management and Training team members to ensure changes are effectively communicated to all stakeholders.
  • Leads vendor management relationships for assigned projects to ensure successful delivery.
  • Maintains appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.
  • Works with the Program Management Office to continue to develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.
  • Follow SMS Equipment policies, procedures and methodologies.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Leadership:

  • Delegates tasks to appropriate project team members and ensures on time completion.
  • Identifies and resolves issues and conflicts within the project team and for the assigned projects. Escalate at the right time as required.
  • Coaches, motivates, and leads project team members and influences them to take positive action and accountability and ensure appropriate quality for their assigned work.
  • Provides coaching and guidance to the team members about every aspect of the project so the team members can perform assigned tasks effectively.
  • Builds, develops, and grows any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Ensures efficient communication with all levels of management, stakeholders, vendors and within project teams.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Typically requires a diploma, certificate, degree or other post-secondary education in a related field and 8-10 years related experience in a Project Management capacity. 
  • Project Management training and certification
  • Excellent discipline and time management skills to plan, manage, and deliver results within a team and independently
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and collaboration skills are required
  • Ability to proactively identify and manage risk
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Ability to travel to where the work needs to be done
  • Customer-focused approach to resolving business process related systems issues
